Over the past 12 months, we have made some significant changes to our spaces to improve the living experience.

Studio Constantine helped us refurbish our dining room, and our new student capital levy has been used to refurbish the much-loved and well-worn tower.

It's the little things that make all the difference. Chairs that hang on the table to make floor cleaning easier. Tables that can be pushed together for a "big family dinner" feel while also creating much better flow. Finally, exquisite weaving by Holly Martin!

We believe that the design of spaces has a direct impact on the kind of community that KSR will be. For this reason, when it came to the refurbishing of one of our most important spaces – the dining room – we decided to utilise the expertise of Studio Constantine. Having already worked with us on our new visual identity, we were confident that they understood who we were and what kind of community we want to be. They designed the changes for us taking into consideration: the purely practical, the desire to make it a more enjoyable community

space, and to bring a renewed aesthetic/design quality. Not only does the space look fantastic, but through some clever design, it is now more spacious. It is a more desirable place in which to enjoy time together over a cup of tea, a round of quiz or, of course, a hearty meal.

towertopThe Student Capital Levy was an initiative of 2015. The idea is simple:
the students contribute a dedicated amount of money to capital improvement, KSR matches it dollar-for-dollar and then the students decide on an improvement they would like. Last year we re-did the courtyard, this year it was the tower. The students wanted to keep the changes minimal, making the tower safe and comfortable while maintaining the rustic charm. The stairs, hand rails and lower-level ceiling were repaired. Other than that, some dangerous wires were capped and covered over. The students went for minimal furnishing completed the project.
